Benson High School Foundation News - November 2024
THE BRICKS
The bricks are all set in the pillars. The pillars will all be shown on Facebook: Omaha Benson Foundation.
Rough pictures are there now; better photos will follow soon. The sidewalk through the Memory Garden will be laid next, and then in the spring the garden will be planted and the benches and sculpture will be in place. We may be able to place a few around the sculpture. If you want to be on a waiting list for this, email [email protected]. Thank you to all who participated.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Foundation has provided a scholarship for a Benson teacher to complete her master’s degree. Presently Benson security guard, Jayden Swensen, has enrolled at UNO to get a teaching degree; he is in his second semester and will teach at Benson. Following his enrollment, another security guard has applied for a scholarship to get a teaching degree. This program has had a jump start in funding by a generous gift from Karen Olson Gensler’57 and her husband, Tom. A big thank you to the Genslers.
BASEBALL FIELD
At this time, drawings are underway for the new baseball field which hopefully will join a new softball field in Gallagher Park (or Krug Park if you went to school a long tine ago). The projected cost for both fields is $5 million. The Foundation will raise the money. Baseball is alive and well at Benson with many players learning the sport, holding a bat, ball or glove for the first time ever.
DAWN STALEY
OPS took the school district’s girls’ basketball teams to hear Dawn Staley at the Women’s Foundation Annual Luncheon. Benson Foundation Board Member, John Boyer and his wife, Lynne, generously donated to the Meet and Greet following the talk which gave the girls the opportunity to meet Dawn and have their photos taken with her. A huge thanks to John and Lynne.
PLANS FOR 2025
